http://TheBadBackGuy.net The Chinese saying about every journey beginning with a single step has been done to death! Sadly, it has become a cliche. Yet, it is true! The first step to real and lasting pain relief, meaning neck pain, back pain, and sciatica relief, begins with a decision to take the first step. Once made, the journey can be a fantastic one that leads to real and lasting pain relief. Unfortunately, I can’t take that first step for you, you must take it yourself. If you do, the rest of the trip is amazing! Try also the free book at http://TheBackPainInstitute.org

I have a terrible pain in my upper back since yesterday. It feels like I strained a muscle. I didn’t do anything strenuous. It just came on me all of a sudden. I can’t lie comfortably and when I laugh it hurts. Any suggestions what this might be? I got sunburn on my face yesterday as well but don’t know if that has anything to do with it.
It still sounds musculoskeletal despite the lack of strenuous involvement (as activity worsens the pain). Try OTC pain relief like Advil 800mg q8hrs as needed. Stretching exercises and ice will also help. Obviously abstain from any hard activities or exercise. If it still hurts after a week and is not improving see your GP and consider physical therapy or further imaging studies depending on your history and background, age, etc.

I have lower back pain but I want to run. What Nike model should I buy which is better to avoid lower back pain?
Don’t buy nike running shoes!!
Go to a store that specializes in running shoes and they will help you out with what kind of shoe is best for your type of foot.
Each person is different but Asics have never steered me wrong. neither have new balance. Mizuno are pretty good as well as Saucony(sp?)

Today I went to my doctor because I’ve been having excruciating lower back pain. X-Rays looked fine, but then he asked me if I was having any urinary problems. I said no because I was embarrassed to say so.
What could be wrong with me if I have both those problems?
possible kidney problems maybe? (not to mean they are, so i wouldnt get worried till the doctor diagnosis you)
however as the x-ray was fine, it might not be kidney stones
but if you tell him about your urine problems, he’l probs might wanna do a blood test or a test on your urine for blood
but if your having any blood in your urine, or urine problems, i would definitly tell your doctor as this could prgress diagnosis, and just be honest, they are there to help you, not to judge you.
good luck.

I have tried OTC arthritis pain meds they don’t offer much relief for me. I have had surgery for herniated disc. My doctor says that there is a lot of inflamation and arthritis in my back. You can’t get Vioxx anymore. Is there an alternative?
Ice works better than any anti inflammatory for inflammation. Apply ice for 10 min, then off for 10 min, back and forth. Naproxen would be the next thing if you don’t want ice. Exercise is the best treatment for arthritis, as pain gets worse if your muscles are stiff. I would recommend going for walks. Some pools have arthritis programs to do water aerobics that are special for arthritis. There are other meds you can take, such as Celebrex. Hope this helps, God Bless
