18 weeks with low back pain and dull belly aches?
August 30th, 2009 by admin
I saw my doc today and told him about this and he said its probably the round ligament pain and my uterus stretching. Its really uncomfortable though, especially the low back pain. I take 2 extra strength tylenol twice daily which helps a little. Does anyone who’s experienced this have any good remedies??
Put a heating pad on your back. It worked for me.

The low back pain is probably sciatic nerve pain. I have it too . It sucks. Tylenol won’t help because it is not an anti-inflammatory. Try using a heating pad and lying on the opposite side of the pain and drinking a lot of water. You can also try an analgesic patch like ben gay.

Try not to lie on your back, it puts more pressure on it and increases the pain. You an also try a warm shower or have some one gently massage your back for you (gentle is important, sometimes I found it hurt more!). Use a wedge pillow under your belly to take some of the pressure off there too.

Me! I tried all of these. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t.

A heating pad, don’t let it get too hot, and tylenol. Lay on your left side and curl your knees up, take the pressure off your back. When you sleep lay on your side and put a pillow between your knees. It helps.

If your job allows, try to sit more than standing. I try to get up and stretch every hour. I never take medicine, but I do try to change positions often as that sometimes makes the pain go away. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep and sleeping on a good mattress. Try the snoogle body pillow - that will help with the back pain.

Hopefully you don’t have a kidney infection. I recommend a heating pad or those thingies that heat up when you unwrap them and will stick to your skin. Just be careful with those, they get quite warm and if you sweat a lot as a result, it’ll fall off. They contain an iron compound so they aren’t harmful. I also recommend purchasing a shower head with a massage feature if you don’t already own one. It’ll be really useful throughout your pregnancy. You can get one for about $7-$10 so they’re not expensive. Try to alternate as much as possible between sitting and standing; either one for prolonged periods can make pain worse. Also sleep on your side as much as you can with a pillow between your knees. Once you start getting bigger, your enlarged uterus will put pressure on your spinal cord and a principle aorta when you lay on your back and can cause your legs to go numb.
