What could I do if I have low back pain?

August 27th, 2009 by admin

My pain is on my lower left side right above my buttocks, that radiates towards my spine. I had an accident 5 years ago and I ended up having physical therapy for about 2 weeks but now it still hurts and when I wake up in the morning is when I feel it the worst. What do you think is wrong or how do you think I could make it more comfortable for me not to wake up with to much pain?

could be kidney. Do you feel better after you pee? I’ve had back surgery and many kidney stones. when that part hurts me its my kidneys. or you could just have a pulled muscle. Hot bath with help with pain.

Try Thermacare pads. They stick to your skin or clothes and move with you, making it easy for sleeping etc… Do you need a new mattress? Also, try laying on your back and pull your knees up to your chest, which helps stretch your back muscles. For me, it makes it feel better. Also, hot bath or shower before bed and first thing in the morning.

One of the most amazing approaches to pain of this sort was a book recommended to me by my dentist - he said it helped him a lot. It’s Dr. Sarno - "Healing Back Pain". You can get it used really cheap off of Amazon.

Dr. Sarno is a doctor of recuperative medicine - which is exactly the type of doctor you’d be seeing. But he has come up with a completely different idea and approach to pain. It’s lots of fun - you might want to take a look at that.

Also - personally I get the opinion from my chiropractor about anything - most lower back pain he can knock out pretty quickly.

It could be anything, nerve problem, muscle problem, kidneys or a number of other things…It is impossible to answer your question without knowing what the actual problem is. Ask your Doctor for a referral for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.

Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there.

You do not need to have an MRI or CT scan yet unless you have a history of cancer, have a profound neurological deficit, are unable to urinate or have had a recent, significant trauma (such as falling down a flight of stairs).

This is most likely the beginning stages of "sciatica". Try focusing alot on your posture, avoid sleeping on a soft mattress and being curled up in the fetal position.

If that doesn’t take care of it, I would recommend a return for a short course of PT. I’d recommend someone who is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy: http://www.mckenziemdt.org
